Alicia Garza: Architect of Liberation, Voice of a Generation

Alicia Garza is a community organizer, political strategist, and freedom visionary whose life’s work has reshaped how we talk about justice, power, and the future of democracy. As a co-founder of the Black Lives Matter movement, she sparked a global uprising—and in the years since, she has continued to build transformative infrastructure for Black communities across the country.

But Garza’s influence goes far beyond hashtags. Through decades of grassroots organizing and institutional advocacy, she has become one of the most respected voices on civil rights and racial equity in the modern era. Her activism is not performative. It is precise, deeply strategic, and grounded in data, storytelling, and radical love for her people.

She is the founder and principal at Black Futures Lab, an organization committed to building Black political power through research, civic engagement, and policy change. Her work through the Lab includes the historic Black Census Project—the largest survey of Black people in America in over 150 years—creating a data-driven roadmap for change, rooted in what Black communities actually want and need.

Alicia is also the co-founder of Supermajority, a national movement that builds the collective power of women to transform politics. Whether in electoral strategy or street-level mobilization, Garza’s leadership bridges generations, ideologies, and institutions.

Her critically acclaimed book, The Purpose of Power: How We Come Together When We Fall Apart, offers a blueprint for organizing that speaks to a world hungry for meaningful change. It is part memoir, part movement manual, and entirely authentic—just like her.

What makes Alicia Garza extraordinary is not just her ability to speak truth to power, but her capacity to build power where there was once none. She doesn’t just critique systems—she designs new ones. She builds political homes for people long left out of the conversation, and she does it with humility, brilliance, and unshakeable purpose.

Alicia Garza is not only a founder of one of the most significant movements of our time—she is a forecaster of freedom, showing us what’s possible when strategy, community, and love converge.

She isn’t just demanding justice—she’s designing a future where justice is the foundation, not the exception.
