The American Society of Journalists and Authors (ASJA)’s dynamic conference returns to New York City from February 24 to 26, 2025, with a stylish twist. Under the theme “ASJA: Always in Fashion, NYC 2025,” the event will be hosted at the Fashion Institute of Technology and supported by the Jay and Patty Baker School of Business and Technology and Marketing Communications Department, the presenting sponsor.

Some media industry leaders who will attend the ASJA Conference include Pulitzer Prize-winning feature writer Lane DeGregory, deputy editor of the New York Times The Great Read Mike Wilson, Teen Vogue Editor-in-Chief Versha Sharma, true crime bestseller T.J. English, and senior editors from AARP the Magazine, Cosmopolitan, Men’s Health, and Elle.com.

ASJA members at the Oct. 21, 2024, MMCA event in D.C. (left to right): Lisa Rabasca Rope, Gabby Gayagoy Gonzalez, Emily Paulsen, and Olga Lucia Torres.

As the Board Chair of the Multicultural Media and Correspondent’s Association and the treasurer of ASJA, I’m excited to offer a 10% discount on the nonmember registration rate with the code ASJA25GRP.

This three-day gathering offers significant opportunities for writers of all levels, from budding freelancers to seasoned professionals. The conference's centerpiece, Client Connections, will take place on February 25. It will offer ASJA professional members invaluable one-on-one meetings with editors, agents, and content managers from leading publications and organizations.

The conference’s program caters to independent writers' core interests in journalism, nonfiction books, and content marketing. Attendees can participate in “pitch slams” across all three genres and receive immediate feedback from top industry professionals.

The conference's midtown Manhattan location perfectly embodies its commitment to keeping writers on the cutting edge of their craft. For over fifty years, ASJA's conference has evolved alongside the industry, addressing contemporary challenges and opportunities—whether that's developing passive income streams or mastering podcast creation.

What sets this year's event apart is its unique timing. The last in-person conference was in 2022. And as the conference shifts to a virtual format in 2026 before returning to in-person gatherings in 2027, “ASJA: Always in Fashion, NYC 2025” represents the only chance for writers to experience a national ASJA event in person for the next two years.

Continuing its commitment to diversity in journalism, ASJA will offer scholarships covering conference registration for freelance writers from historically underrepresented populations. Scholarship application details were announced in the ASJA Weekly newsletter, the organization's social media channels, and the ASJA website.

For writers serious about advancing their careers and expanding their professional networks, this February's ASJA conference is not to be missed. With its strategic timing and fashion-forward venue, the event promises to provide attendees with immediate opportunities and long-term career benefits. Hope to see you at the conference!
